 Церемония вручения наград прошла с большой помпой при участии прессы и известных представителей игровой индустрии в Лас-Вегасе. Местом проведения церемонии был избран зал одного из красивейших казино этого города - Palms Casino Resort. Академия Интерактивных Искусств и Наук более чем серьезно подходит к отборы персон, имеющих право участвовать в голосовании по поводу наград, а потому в объективности принятого академиками решения не приходится сомневаться. Тем более, что победители оказались достойны свой награды - в число счастливчиков попали лучшие из лучших игровых тайтлов прошедшего года. Игрой года был единодушно признан уже ставший культовым шутер от первого лица Call of Duty. Наибольшее число наград - 11 - получила компания Electronic Arts, вслед за ней идет Ubisoft с девятью наградами. Создатели игры Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time увезли с собой аж восемь наград, включая звание лучшей консольной игры года. В заключении церемонии было торжественно названо имя человека, чье имя было в этом году внесено в Зал Славы легендарных разработчиков игр. Им стал Питер Мульнье из Lionhead Studios - создатель таких хитов как Dungeon Keeper и Black and White.
